NJIT at a Glance 

New Jersey Institute of Technology, commonly known as NJIT, is the only public Polytechnic Institute in New Jersey. The 12,000+ university is nationally ranked, and home to the Division-I Highlanders. The athletic department sponsors 17 sports, two club sports and esports.  NJIT Athletics reaches three affinity groups, students, fans and alumni. There are over 12,000 students, nearly 70,000 alumni, and endless fans!

There are 68,550 Alumni in the U.S. with 79% in five states: NJ, NY, PA, CA, FL.

Newark: An Up and Coming City

Newark has 60,000 students and faculty at six universities and  has the 5th highest concentration of higher education on the East Coast behind Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.. Newark has experience a boom in housing development. The Halo development on Washington Street as well as South of Market Street, secured a $90 million loan. Construction has begun on the first of three towers. When completed, the site will total 949 units marking it the second largest development site in downtown Newark.


There is also Vermella Broad Street, an apartment and retail community within walking distance to NJIT.


Newark’s food and hospitality industry is second to none and includes:

  • Iconic Jewish deli Hobby’s Delicatessen

  • Sister restaurants Ashley’s Delicious Treats and Madre & Son Soul Food Café

  • Melba Wilson will open a Melba’s restaurant at 550 Broad Street. The Harlem restaurateur announced that she will be opening Melba’s 550.
